Paul Borg is a distinguished Australian artist based in Melbourne's western suburbs. His practice explores the people, landscapes, and everyday objects of suburban life, capturing the character and complexity of his immediate environment. A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts, Paul has maintained a dedicated art practice for over 40 years and has shared his expertise in painting and drawing through three decades of teaching at Victoria University TAFE. He now directs his own art school, the Paul Borg Art School, in Melbourne.
Raised in suburban Melbourne, Paul experienced firsthand the transformative effects of urban development on both the landscape and its communities. Reflecting on his artistic journey, he notes:
"Years ago, I was advised to travel the world in search of more 'universal' imagery beyond my home environment. But upon returning, I found myself drawn back to suburbia, seeing it through a new lens—recognizing its quiet beauty."
Inspired by artists such as Velasquez, Vermeer, Constable, and Van Gogh—who rendered their surroundings with sincerity and reverence—Paul aspires for his own work to resonate with the same universal appeal and emotional depth.
